I remember a family friend, visiting from Australia years ago, talking about how much she loved the soft grey light that we get here in the Northern Hemisphere. At the time I really couldn't understand her interest and remember thinking that I'd have much preferred to be living below constant blue skies "down under" in Oz.
However, after what's beginning to seem like an eternity of grey skies, I’m beginning to really enjoy the odd light we’ve been experiencing in Dublin (Ireland) recently. Yesterday afternoon I happened upon this money puzzle tree and reckoned it seemed especially stark with that backdrop of grey.
The old stone wall to the left also acted as an interesting leading line. I shot this with the Instagram camera app on my trusty iPhone 6s. Initially, I saved the photo in it's original format before posting it as a black and white. Later in the day I made some minimal edits to the original file in Instagram before posting it to my profile.
I'd definitely encourage everyone to get out and try to enjoy this light before the promised Southerly Winds blow all of these clouds away next week! As always, do feel welcome to get in touch with me directly here if you have any photography kit or workflow questions...
