So much fun this afternoon snowboarding on real snow at the Ski Club of Ireland in Kiltiernan, Co. Dublin. It’s an amazing place which has been around for more than 50 years. Two button lifts and two lengths of ‘magic carpet’ get you to wherever you need to be in relative comfort which was the real selling point for me yesterday after spending the previous two days hiking for hours to enjoy even a few modest runs in random parks around County Dublin!
Outside of exceptional snow falls (a rare event in Ireland) and Kiltiernan offers some really great dry slopes during the rest of actual European skiing season. The club benefits from terrific facilities which include a club house / viewing gallery, equipment hire and changing facilities, a decent enough length of intermediate to advanced slope as well as a beginners area on some kind of new carpet material that’s especially forgiving if you fall on it!
It’s a great place for beginners to learn the basics to best set themselves up for success ahead of a much more expensive overseas ski trip. Great too for the more advanced riders to hone and improve their skills between foreign trips. After all, sports like skiing and snowboarding rely so heavily on muscle memory that the mind and body will really benefit from a few practice sessions ahead of a trip. Lessons with instructors can be booked through the club and there’s also a great sense of camaraderie where one feels welcome to ask for a few tips from more advanced shredders!
Here’s a quick video that sums about some of the great fun and adventure that was on offer at the club yesterday during one of those rare and precious real snow days! If you have any questions about opening times or would like to book a lesson or enquire about practice sessions you can contact the Ski Club of Ireland directly here. Got an idea for an adventure you’d like me to try and film in Ireland or abroad? Let me know in the comments or message me directly here!
