A first in its type, this weekend BMW introduced their brand new X2 at various locations around the world. As a customer I got an invite to attend the Dublin (Ireland) launch which took place at the EatYard of Dublin's low key yet trendy Bernard Shaw pub. Invited guests were treated to a range of delicious eats from a host of the venues in-house vendors. Live music (a mix of funky jazz) was also provided by Dublin group The Vulture Collective.
Petrol and Diesel engines are available at launch with surprisingly no mention of electric or hybrid models. What excites me about the X2 is the possibility of having four wheel drive and higher road clearance, to better facilitate adventurous activities that often involve potholes and muck, without the much larger volume and running costs of large SUV.
A perfect solution for the weekend warrior? Quite possibly - especially if you chose a model with roof rails and the plastic fender detailing around the body. Perfect for avoiding dings in supermarkets or other tight urban car parking spaces that seem to attract careless drivers!
The particular model featured above is the X2 Msport xDrive20d. Powered by a BMW TwinPower four-cylinder diesel engine capable of outputting 140kW (190bhp) and 400Nm of torque giving it an acceleration of 0-62mph in 7.7 seconds. It also featured a rather fly set of rims riding on sports tyres. My other favourite features were it's sports seats and auto gearbox with paddle shifters behind the sports steering wheel.
Unfortunately I didn't get to drive this model as the event wasn't really geared up for test drives. Hopefully I can get behind the wheel over the next couple of weeks. In the mean time here's a little video I made which gives some closer up internal and external views!
